One injured in Mountain View carport fire

A dozen cars damaged or destroyed in two-alarm blaze Saturday

A two-alarm blaze injured one person and damaged 12 vehicles in a carport in Mountain View Saturday, July 26, fire officials said.

Firefighters responded around 4:40 p.m. to an apartment complex in the 2000 block of Latham Street, near S. Rengstorff Avenue, on the report of a car fire.

Fire officials said they arrived at the scene to find multiple cars on fire with heavy flames and smoke coming from the carport.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire and prevent it from spreading to the apartment building.

Fire officials said one person was transported to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation. Seven vehicles were completely destroyed in the fire, and five had mild to moderate damage.

One apartment unit was mildly damaged by smoke, and a nearby car wash also sustained damage.

No firefighters were injured. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Mountain View Police Department is asking that anyone with information on the fire call 650-903-6395.
