Hogan is named to Johnny Unitas award watch list

Stanford senior quarterback Kevin Hogan is among 27 preseason candidates for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, it was announced Saturday morning.

The prestigious award bears the name of the man who many refer to as the finest quarterback to ever play the game of football.

Established in 1987, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award has previously honored 27 outstanding young men.

The 2014 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award will be presented on December 12, 2014.

Hogan was recently one of two Stanford representatives at the annual Pac-12 Football Media Days in Los Angeles.

Hogan was previously named to the Maxwell Award watch list as national player of the year as well as the Davey O'Brien watch list as top quarterback.

A multi-faceted quarterback, Hogan is 16-3 as a starter and 10-1 against nationally-ranked opponents. He ran for the third-highest single season yardage by a Stanford quarterback last season (355 yards).

Through the air, Hogan attempted just 295 passes but completed 180 of them (61 percent) en route to 2,630 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Stanford's season opens Aug. 30 with a 1 p.m. (PT) home game against UC Davis on Pac-12 Networks.
