Suspects at large after Palo Alto robbery

Two men stole man's wallet at Town & Country Village

Police are seeking witnesses to a strong-arm robbery that occurred last Wednesday afternoon in the northeast parking lot at Town & Country shopping center in Palo Alto.

Palo Alto police officers responded to a call the morning of Friday, June 16, asking them to check on the well-being of a man who was asleep in a wheelchair at the time.

When police arrived, along with personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department, they deemed the man, who is in his sixties and does not speak, in no medical distress. The officers did, however, learn of the crime that had taken place just days before.

The man reported to police via writing that two men approached him Wednesday, June 11, between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. They began speaking to him and asked if he had any money. When he nodded, one of the men reached into his pocket and took his wallet before both men walked away. Police said they had no known associated vehicle and they did not injure the man.

The man described both suspects as black male adults in their mid-thirties. One suspect was about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds with a medium build, police said. He was described as clean shaven. He was wearing black pants and a blue t-shirt with the word "Security" written across the front in capital letters. The man said the other suspect was 5 feet 5 inches tall or shorter, between 170 and 200 pounds and heavily built. He had short blond hair and was wearing brown shorts and a yellow long-sleeved shirt with the word "Pacific" written across the front.

Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed this incident contact the department's 24-hour dispatch center at 650-329-2413. Anonymous tips can be e-mailed to paloalto@tipnow.org or sent via text message or voice mail to 650-383-8984.
