Stanford grad still playing a high level of beach volleyball


The United States beach volleyball team of Stanford grad Kerri Walsh Jennings and April Ross advanced to the second round of single elimination at the FIVB Fuzhou Open.

Walsh Jennings and Ross are the lone U.S. team still playing in Fuzhou.

On Friday, Walsh Jennings and Ross, seeded No. 4 in the main draw, went 3-0 in pool play by defeating Argentina's No. 20 Georgina Klug and Ana Gallay, 22-20, 21-18 in 39 minutes. They advanced directly to the second round where they will play Brazil's No. 6 Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas De Freitas on Saturday.

The other two U.S. women's teams in the main draw both lost in the first round of single elimination on Friday.

Men's diving

Four-time Olympian Troy Dumais returned to the pool where he won Olympic bronze in 2012 as the third leg of the FINA Diving World Series kicked off Friday at the London Aquatics Centre.

He paired with younger brother and Stanford grad Dwight Dumais for 403.14 points and a sixth-place finish in the men's synchronized 3-meter contest.

China's He Chong and Qin Kai took the gold with 469.41 points, followed by Ukraine's Oleksandr Gorshkovozav and Illya Kvasha at 443.43 and Russia's Evgeny Kuznetsov and Illya Zakharov at 442.62.
