Menlo seniors take center stage in Oaks' big victory

Senior Mickey Phelps hit a home run and drove in three runs, John Bowling hit a home run and drove in two runs and the Menlo College baseball team turned Senior Day into a celebration Wednesday, beating visiting Biola, 12-1, in a nonconference game.

The Oaks (28-25) used nine pitchers, who allowed a combined one unearned run on five hits, with senior first baseman-closer Kyer Vega being awarded the victory for getting four outs. He also had two hits and drove in two runs.

Nate Harris added two RBI, while Daniel Comstock, Aaron Suarez-Lopez and Gino Francis also drove in runs.

Menlo, winners of nine straight at home, ends the regular season with a nonconference game at Cal State Sacramento on Tuesday.

The Oaks open the NAIA West Tournament, to determine who advances to the NAIA national tournament, on May 2 with a game against College of Idaho at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
