Local veterans asked to contribute to art project

Palo Alto Art Center's upcoming 'Containers of Community' will collect military memorabilia to be incorporated into ceramic cups

The Palo Alto Art Center needs help from local veterans and their families in putting together an exhibition.

The planned exhibit, "Containers of Community," is scheduled to open on Sept. 7. But before it can go anywhere, the artist and potter behind the artwork, Ehren Tool, needs to collect memorabilia and images from veterans and their families to use in the creation of the pieces that will appear in the show.

Tool, a former Marine, lives and works in Berkeley. He is slated to be the Art Center's artist in residence from June 7-29. During that time he will take objects, such as medals, badges and scanned photographs, and incorporate them into small cups.

The Art Center is asking that local veterans and their families share any objects or images they might have that remind them of the military or time spent in the armed services.

For more information on Tool and his work, email or call the Art Center: artcenter@cityofpaloalto.org, 650-329-2366
