Police seize weapons, arrest 16-year-old gang member

Probation search of an East Palo Alto residence yields numerous weapons, ammunition

East Palo Alto Police conducted a probation search of a 16-year-old gang member's East Palo Alto residence on Wednesday, Oct. 30, seizing a loaded semi-automatic handgun, a stolen shotgun, an assault rifle, numerous firearm ammunition magazines and numerous cartridges of ammunition, according to a police department press release.

Police conducted the search on Wednesday around 3:53 p.m. on the 2500 block of Gloria Way in conjunction with San Mateo County probation officers and California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation parole agents. They seized the weapons and arrested the 16-year-old on gun charges.

The gang member reportedly threatened officers before he was transported to Juvenile Hall.

The case is being forwarded the San Mateo County Juvenile District Attorney's Office for criminal prosecution.

East Palo Alto police sergeant Jeff Liu said it's too early to determine if the weapons were involved with the Oct. 29 shooting that left three city residents wounded.
