Train strikes pedestrian in Menlo Park area

Caltrain reported that its southbound train No. 258 struck and killed a pedestrian north of the Encinal Avenue crossing in Menlo Park around 4:22 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14.

All trains were held in both directions while transit police respond to the scene, according to Caltrain spokesperson Jayme Ackemann.

VTA, BART and SamTrans were accepting Caltrain fare media. SamTrans ran a bus bridge between Redwood City and Palo Alto until trains were able to resume running along both tracks around 6:30 p.m.

Caltrain said this is the agency's 13th fatality this year.
