Menlo women off to their best soccer start

The Menlo College women's soccer team remained undefeated in Cal Pac Conference play, and earned its sixth straight overall, following a 2-0 victory over host UC Merced on Wednesday.

Jocelyn Aguilar and Danielle McCarthy each scored a goal for the Lady Oaks (3-0 in the Cal Pac, 6-1 overall), who are off to their best start in program history. Menlo has outscored opponents 26-1 during the current winning streak.

Aguilar scored in the fourth minute, getting an assist from Yasmeen Fuentes on a corner kick. Aguilar recorded her fifth goal of the season for Aguilar, tying Natalie Ingram for the team lead.

Menlo goalkeeper Whitney Galindo, the reigning Cal Pac Conference Defensive Player of the Week, had six saves in recording her fourth consecutive shutout and her fifth of the season. Megan McKee and Kayla Cisneroz played a hand in keeping the Bobcats off the scoreboard.

McCarthy added an unassisted goal in the 90th minute for the clincher.

"This was another great team performance," Menlo coach Keith Lambert said. "We have been talking a lot about scoring early in the match as well executing on set pieces and today we achieved both of those goals. UC Merced made our back line work throughout the match with a number of direct balls, but we did well to absorb the pressure and win the first and second ball."

The Lady Oaks host Simpson on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
