Talk: 'The Science of Happiness'

Stanford educator and author Fred Luskin, director of the Stanford Forgiveness Project, gives a free talk at 3:15 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 5, in the university's Memorial Auditorium. His topic is "The Science of Happiness," covering the neurobiology at the root of mood states and methods for finding positive emotions and relationships. Luskin teaches classes on positive psychology and emotional intelligence at Stanford. Go to events.stanford.edu.

Art: 'Scapes: Land, Sea, and Urban'

A free artists' reception will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 5, for the new Pacific Art League group exhibition "Scapes: Land, Sea, and Urban." Works by 36 artists are being shown in the Main Gallery at 668 Ramona St. in downtown Palo Alto. The first-place piece in the show is the photograph "A Profusion of Poppies" by Palo Alto photographer Judy Kramer. The exhibition runs through Oct. 25, open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 to 4. Admission is free. Go to pacificartleague.org.
