Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife Ann are in the Bay Area today for a fundraising trip that includes a reception in Hillsborough with tickets reaching $50,000 per person.

That event is being held at the Chateau Carolands, a mansion nestled in the hills of San Mateo County. Ticket prices range from $2,500 for the general reception to $50,000 for a “founder’s dinner.”

Attendees will include former Gov. Pete Wilson and former Secretary of State George Shultz, according to an invitation for the event. This afternoon, Ann Romney will attend a “Bay Area Ladies’ Luncheon” at the Palo Alto home of Cisco CEO John Chambers and his wife, Elaine.

Local Democrats and a former Department of Commerce official plan to hold a 5:30 p.m. news conference outside of Romney’s Hillsborough fundraiser. They say they plan to speak about the former Massachusetts governor’s business philosophy and what a Romney presidency would mean for the middle class.

Speakers will include Ro Khanna, former deputy assistant secretary at the Commerce Department; Santa Clara County Democratic Party Chair Steve Preminger; and Ellouise Patton of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 5.

Romney’s visit comes on the heels of a Bay Area stopover by President Barack Obama, who came to town last week for several campaign fundraisers on the Peninsula and in San Jose. Tickets to the Obama events reached $35,800.

  1. Will Obama admit that his charge of Polish death camps is a result of his ignorance of history? The Polish people are pissed off at him. This guy is so uninformed. Did he misread his teleprompeter?

  2. Obama misspoke–nothing to do with ignorance of history. However his comments were not too far off–the polish kept anti-semitism alive for centuries before the war. They cheered the nazis when they carted the Jews away and then after the war they killed many of the jews that tried to return to their homes. In addition the poles have played the anti-semitism card for decades after the war.
The poles acting all outraged is a joke

  3. Kevin: “Did he misread his teleprompeter” It’s actually a teleprompter, not a telepromPETER; did YOU misread your Fox talking points?

Also, please send a link to the last major speech Governor Romney gave without the use of a teleprompter. His last one was Iowa, and it was such an awful speech, his handlers had him start using them again.

Romney has been attacking the President for taking over during a recession and not creating jobs fast enough.

Governor Romney sent out a press release today defending his terrible effort at creating jobs as governor, being 47th out of 50.

From his release: “Governor Romney Inherited An Economy That Was Losing Jobs Each Month And Left Office With An Economy That Was Adding Jobs Each Month.”

    47 out of 50.

Romney was such a FAILURE as a leader, he couldn’t get elected for a 2nd term in his only position as an elected official.

Republican Rick Perry said that the only reason Romney wasn’t a career politician was because he couldn’t get reelected.

  4. Note that it’s being held in a mansion built of fake granite and the site of a terrible violent crime resulting in murder.

  5. Carolands is owned by a banker. Most of the attendees will be more bankers. They are trying to undo the bank anti-corruption reforms that Obama put in place to prevent future Bush-style recessions.

  6. Kevin-people from Poland are referred to as poles. If you are really worried about ignorance of history then look into the history of Poland and the Jews. The response of the poles to this incident is an example of revisionist history. If the poles are so upset they should secret diplomatic relations with the US.

  7. May as well immediately require log-in to comment on any Obama or Romney story for the next six months. Nothing edifying in the above, except one comment prompted a web-search for Carolands owners. Interesting hundred-year history of the place since a Pullman heiress drained her finances building it. Most of the square mile of estate grounds were sold off and the mansion now sits in what resembles a Palo Alto subdivision though not quite as dense as Rickeys Hyatt House. The current owners bought the place 14 years ago as a fixer-upper, and poured plenty into its restoration. Elsewise it would have been torn down for ten more lots.

  8. Romney threads get closed to posters or locked

Yet the Obama fundraising thread (Obama coming to Palo Alto Thursday) is open, with 48 posts at this time.

    Odd.
