Tonight (Dec. 8) at 7 p.m., Richard Heinberg gives a talk on his book "The End of Growth," which focuses on the ongoing financial crisis and posits how a new economy can be built within the constraints of the planet's current level of resources and energy. The talk is at Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. Audience members must buy the event book or a $10 gift card to admit two. (Bookstore members get in free.) Go to keplers.com.

• Music: Jam session
