• Theater: 'The Secret Garden'

Preview performances begin at 8 p.m. tonight (Nov. 30) for TheatreWorks' production of "The Secret Garden," the musical adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's novel. The Broadway show has book and lyrics by Marsha Norman ("'night, Mother") and music by Lucy Simon, who made her Broadway debut in 1991 with "The Secret Garden." The show runs through Dec. 31 at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto, with performances Tuesday through Sunday. Go to theatreworks.org.

• Lecture: Pulitzer Prize winners

Los Angeles Times journalists Jeff Gottlieb, Ruben Vives and Paloma Esquivel will give a free talk tonight (Nov. 30) at 7 p.m. about breaking the 2011 Pulitzer Prize-winning stories about corruption in Bell, California. They will also talk about subsequent online tools launched by the Times to help people better utilize public records. The event is in Paul Brest Hall East, 555 Salvatierra Walk (off Campus Drive), in the Munger Graduate Residence Building 4 at Stanford University. Go to events.stanford.edu.
