Strength of 'Spirit'

Freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors at Gunn and Palo Alto high schools last week competed for school spirit prizes in longstanding traditions at both schools.

At Gunn Thursday, Lara Streiff dressed up as a flapper for "decade day" and worked on decorating Dr. Frankenstein on the seniors' horror-themed float.

Sophomores worked on the theme of "home" for their float, featuring a house, a rotating tree, a Prius, a dog, a cat and a rat. Gunn held its annual "night rally" featuring competitive choreographed dances in the gym Thursday.

Paly's festivities included sumo wrestling, themed costumes and class floats. At both schools, the week culminates with a homecoming dance.
