Water polo honors for Paly, SHP graduates

Princeton's Tim Wenzlau and Ben Dearborn have been honored by Collegiate Water Polo Association's Southern Division for their performances last weekend in Princeton's three wins over 15th-ranked Bucknell, Johns Hopkins and 17th-ranked Navy.

Wenzlau earned his second career Player of the Week honor and Dearborn was recognized as the Defensive Player of the Week.

A graduate of Palo Alto High, Wenzlau netted 10 goals on 18 shots during the three games. He started the weekend with four goals, including two in overtime, two drawn ejections and a blocked shot in an overtime win at Bucknell. He then had three goals and a drawn ejection in a home win over Johns Hopkins and added another three goals in a home overtime win over Navy. He added four steals and a field block in the Navy win. Wenzlau also received Southern Player of the Week honors last September.

Dearborn, a graduate of Sacred Heart Prep, made 32 saves in Princeton's three wins. He also added two steals and finished the three games with a .653 save percentage. Dearborn recorded 14 saves in the win at Bucknell and followed that up with a career-high 18 saves in an overtime win over Navy. Five of the saves came in overtime as he made two stops at the buzzer to preserve the Princeton win.

Princeton is 14-7 overall and 5-2 in the Southern Division. The Tigers can clinch first in the regular season with a win in their next game, this Friday night at 8 p.m., at home against George Washington.
