Fiction writer Neal Stephenson (who might be described as a writer of speculative fiction, science fiction or cyberpunk) is scheduled to speak at 7 p.m. tonight (Oct. 7) about his new book, "Reamde." • Family: Kids' Diwali Celebration

The Palo Alto Children's Library is marking the Indian Festival of Lights with a kids' Diwali Celebration for children ages 3 to 5 and their families. An art activity and storytelling in Hindi and English will take place today (Oct. 7) from 11 a.m. to noon at 1276 Harriet St. in Palo Alto. Go to cityofpaloalto.org.
