This weekend's events (Sept. 24-25)

■ Community: Electric-car rally

Plug-in hybrids, electric bicycles and motorcycles, and other EVs will be the stars of the show Saturday (Sept. 24) at the 39th annual Electric Car Rally and Show. The event goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Palo Alto High School at Embarcadero Road and El Camino Real. Together with the vehicles on display, there will be test driving, a vendor area and food and drinks. Admission is free, and the event is organized by the Silicon Valley chapter of the Electric Auto Association. Go to eaasv.org.

■ Music: 'CCRMA Cabaret 2.0'

Pianist Gloria Cheng performs John Cage's "Water Music" and other unusual contemporary works in a free concert Saturday (Sept. 24) at 8 p.m. at the CCRMA Stage, The Knoll, Stanford University. CCRMA (The Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics) is presenting the concert as part of its "Cabaret 2.0" series, which looks at music that's difficult to categorize: improvisational, sound art and experimental. Go to events.stanford.edu.

■ Community: Media Center open house

Palo Alto's Midpeninsula Community Media Center is holding a free open house on Sunday (Sept. 25) from 1 to 5 p.m. at 900 San Antonio Road. The Andre Thierry Zydeco Band will perform, with al fresco dance lessons, tours and hands-on demonstrations of cameras and other equipment. The event will honor the contributions of Media Center volunteers, who help create the center's cable programming. An RSVP is requested; call 650-494-8686.
