■ Art: 'Where Art Originates'

Choreographer Andee Scott and photography and video artist Simon Zoric will give a free talk tonight (Sept. 19) at 7 p.m. at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road. The event is part of the "Where Art Originates" lecture series on creativity given by artists from the Djerassi Resident Artists Program near Woodside. Reservations are required; call 650-747-1250. ■ Music: College of San Mateo Big Band

Jazz and standards are on the menu when the 18-piece College of San Mateo Big Band plays the Oak City Bar & Grill tonight (Sept. 19) at 8 p.m. The restaurant is at 1029 El Camino Real in Menlo Park. Call 650-321-6882 or go to oakcitybarandgrill.com.
