Woman killed in hit-and-run on East Bayshore

Nora Fuentes-Arias, 53, of Redwood City found by police Tuesday evening

A woman killed in a Redwood City hit-and-run crash Tuesday evening (Sept. 6) has been identified as 53-year-old Nora Fuentes-Arias of Redwood City, a San Mateo County deputy coroner said.

Police found Fuentes-Arias lying on the ground in the 3000 block of E. Bayshore Road around 7:15 p.m. Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene, according to police. Witnesses told police that a vehicle struck Fuentes-Arias and fled. The vehicle was found at a trailer park in the 1900 block of East Bayshore with front-end damage.

The driver and registered owner of the vehicle, Julio Montenegro, 58, of Redwood City, was found and arrested. Montenegro was booked at the San Mateo County Jail on hit-and-run causing death and vehicular manslaughter charges, according to police.

The hit-and-run investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact Redwood City police detectives Val Cook or Joe O'Gorman at 650-780-7100.

So sad, she would have had many more years of life, but got it snuffed out by a BAD driver.
Take time to think how you drive.
A car hitting a car is bad enough, but a car vs person...the person loses for sure.
Sometimes it's a tired driver, or distracted driver, other times drunk or drugged, but in the end, a person dies or gets maimed.
So, So SAD.

No info here about direction of travel or other circumstance, but note around 7 pm this time of year is just before sunset when even a good driver has a hard time seeing into the sun and must compensate by slowing down and being extra alert. Pedestrians and cyclists should be aware that a bad sun angle can make them invisible.
