Stanford frosh reaches Round of 16 at U.S. Amateur

 

Stanford freshman Patrick Rodgers eliminated Atherton resident Jonathan Garrick, 6 & 4, in the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur Championships Thursday.

Rodgers will play for the U.S. at the Walker Cup in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Rodgers is one of seven members who will play in the tournament. Another three will be selected following the U.S. Amateur Championship.

Rodgers played his way on the team following a summer of success in amateur tournaments. He was a runner up in the Sage Valley Junior, the Southern Amateur and the Terra Cotta. He also recorded a top 5 finish in the Northern Amateur and the Jones Cup.

His highlight is a come-from-behind, extra-holes win at the Porter Cup in Niagara Falls.
