■ Community: EHP Community BlockFest

The Ecumenical Hunger Program nonprofit is hosting a free community party Saturday (Aug. 13) from 1 to 5 p.m. at 2411 Pulgas Ave. in East Palo Alto. ■ Music: The Sun Kings

The Beatles cover band The Sun Kings plays a free outdoor concert on Saturday (Aug. 13) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Mitchell Park, 600 E. Meadow Drive, Palo Alto. The event is part of the city's Twilight Concert series, which this year ends with a teen concert on Aug. 20. Go to cityofpaloalto.org.

■ Theater: New Works Festival

This weekend's (Aug. 13-14) events at TheatreWorks' New Works Festival include a reading of the futuristic musical "The Giver" (based on the book by Lois Lowry) on Saturday at noon, and a reading of the Laura Schellhardt play "Upright Grand," about a concert pianist and her father, on Sunday at 4 p.m. Events are at the Lucie Stern Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road, Palo Alto. Tickets are $19 for individual staged readings. Go to theatreworks.org.
