Portion of Highway 101 closing Sunday morning

Stretch of 101 between San Antonio Road and Oregon Expressway closing for utility-line work

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority will briefly shut down U.S. Highway 101 in Mountain View and Palo Alto on Sunday morning to install new utility lines.

The closure is estimated to be 15 minutes in duration and will occur sometime between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m. between San Antonio Road and Oregon Expressway in both directions. Crews will remove existing utility lines and place new ones as part of the U.S. 101 Auxiliary Lanes Project, which aims to improve congestion in the area, according to the VTA.

Other aspects of the project include constructing auxiliary lanes and extending existing second HOV lanes in both directions of Highway 101 between state Highway 85 in Mountain View and the Embarcadero Road interchange in Palo Alto.
