■ Dance: Samba lesson

A free samba "mini-lesson" will be followed by an open dance party outdoors on Courthouse Square in downtown Redwood City. The 30-minute lesson begins at 6 p.m. tonight (Aug. 9), taught by Imperial Ballroom instructors. The free event is part of a summer series of free concerts and film screenings in Redwood City. ■ Music: Master class

Today (Aug. 9) at 2:45 p.m., the public can observe a free master class given to young students by the cellist Paul Watkins as part of the Music@Menlo chamber-music festival. The class is in Martin Family Hall at Menlo School, 50 Valparaiso Ave., Atherton. Go to musicatmenlo.org.
