The photos of two East Palo Alto men linked to a string of homicides in two states were released by police Thursday (Aug. 4).

Jaime Cardenas, 19, and Fidel Silva, 24, are wanted for homicide in Grand Junction, Colo., and for questioning in two homicides in East Palo Alto.

Catherine Fisher, 19, of Menlo Park was gunned down on July 13 while sitting in a vehicle with two acquaintances. Hugo Chavez, 26, was killed July 19 on Illinois Street. East Palo Alto police said they have received tips leading to Cardenas and Silva as suspects, and to a third man, Christian Fuentes, 20, who was picked up by police after a parole violation.

Cardenas and Silva are considered armed and extremely dangerous. Anyone with information about their location is asked to call 911 or contact the East Palo Alto tip line at 650-409-6792.

  1. These photos remind me of a short crime article clipped from a local paper my mom had for years. The suspects were described as “extremely ugly.” These could be described as “extremely unintelligent looking,” (to be polite). No wonder they’re thugs – they look like total mouth breathers!

Let’s hope that they get caught soon and w/no more violence.

  2. The reporting on this story is very thin. While all of the information is coming from the EPA police, there are too many edges dangling in the wind.

So .. where are these guys from? EPA, or points East/West/North/South?

And why are they moving around, killing people (or so they police seem to think)? Are they “professionals”, or just thugs with “hair triggers”?

Are they US citizens, or non-citizens here legally/illegally?

Why would they come to EPA from somewhere in Colorado? And what was their reason for wanting to kill (presumably) the man in the car where the girl was killed? How come they knew this guy was in the car? Why not wait until he got out of the car, and not end up killing someone whom they didn’t know?

This whole scenario needs a lot of “ink” .. and the Weekly/EPA Police are not delivering at the moment. Hope they eventually inform the public of the details.

Given that Mexico does not have a death penalty–there’s every reason to believe that these guys will end up south-of-the-border, and not end up being caught by US police.

  3. Death penalty? We don’t really have one here. They certainly do in Mexico, though unofficial. Seen any of the mayhem statistics down there lately? These guys wouldn’t last very long at all south of the border.
