This weekend's events (July 30-31)


■ Music: Pellejo Seco

The Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble Pellejo Seco performs a free concert of original compositions on Saturday (July 30) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. as part of the City of Palo Alto's free Twilight Concert Series. The event is at Rinconada Park, 777 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto. Go to cityofpaloalto.org.

■ Theater: 'Oedipus'

This is the opening weekend for Stanford Summer Theater's production of Seneca's "Oedipus," which is being performed at the Nitery Theater, Old Union, Stanford University. Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m., through Aug. 14. The script is a translation by the poet Ted Hughes, commissioned in 1968 for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Tickets are $20 general and $15 for seniors and students. ■ Theater: 'Our Miss Gibbs'

The South Bay group Lyric Theatre performs the Edwardian musical "Our Miss Gibbs" on Saturday (July 30) at 8 p.m. and Sunday (July 31) at 2 p.m. The venue is the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts at 500 Castro St. Tickets are $25. Go to lyrictheatre.org.
