■ Music: Brian Andres & The Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel

As part of the city of Menlo Park's annual free outdoor summer concert series, Brian Andres & The Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel will play a show of salsa music tomorrow (July 27) from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Audience members often bring picnic dinners to the concerts, which are held in downtown Menlo Park in Fremont Park at University Drive and Santa Cruz Avenue. The series runs through Aug. 10. For details, go to menlopark.org.

■ Author: Howard Markel

Tomorrow (July 27) at 7 p.m. Howard Markel will give an author talk on his book "An Anatomy of Addiction: Sigmund Freud, William Halsted, and the Miracle Drug Cocaine." The event is at Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. Audience members must buy a copy of the book or a $10 gift certificate to admit two; bookstore members get in free.
