■ Film: 'Out of the Past'

A free screening of the 1947 Jacques Tourneur private-eye noir film "Out of the Past," starring Robert Mitchum, is scheduled for tonight (July 11) at 7 p.m. in Stanford University's Annenberg Auditorium. The event is part of Stanford Summer Theatre's focus on themes of memory. Rush Rehm, a Stanford professor and the artistic director of the theater organization, will lead a discussion after the film. ■ Art Talk: 'Sound and Insight'

As part of a series of free talks given by artists from the Djerassi Resident Artists Program, Budapest composer Kriztina Megyeri and Montreal visual artist Karen Tam will give a talk tonight (July 11) at 7 p.m. at the Palo Alto Children's Theatre, 1305 Middlefield Road. Reservations are required for the talk, which will be about the artists' creative processes and conclude with a Q&A. Call 650-329-2367. For more information, go to djerassi.org.
