■ Talk: Summer science lectures

Tomorrow (June 30) at 7 p.m., Stanford associate professor of bioengineering and psychiatry Karl Deisseroth will give a free talk called "Using Fiber Optics and Genes from Algae to Solve Problems in Psychiatry." Held on the lawn outside the Cantor Arts Center, the talk is intended for the general public. According to a Stanford write-up, Karl Deisseroth created optogenetics, which uses light to "precisely control and tune brain activity." Call 725-2650 or go to events.stanford.edu.

■ Film: 'The Green Hornet'

A free outdoor showing of the 2011 Seth Rogen and Jay Chou superhero film "The Green Hornet" is scheduled at Courthouse Square, 2200 Broadway, downtown Redwood City. The city-sponsored event is tomorrow (June 30) at 8:45 p.m., as part of the summer outdoor movie series. Call 650-780-7340 or go to redwoodcity.org.
