■ Author: Meg Waite Clayton

Tonight (June 28) at 7 p.m., Palo Alto author Meg Waite Clayton hosts a launch party for her new book, "The Language of Light." The free event is at Books Inc., 74 Town & Country Village, Palo Alto. The author's previous novel, "The Four Ms. Bradwells," was recently reviewed in the Weekly. Go to booksinc.net.

■ Dance: 'Dancing on the Square'

As part of its free weekly summer "Dancing on the Square" events, the city of Redwood City hosts free mini-lessons and open social dancing, focusing on the waltz, today (June 28) from 6 to 8 p.m. on Courthouse Square at 2200 Broadway. Instructors come from the Imperial Dance Studio in Redwood City. No partner is required. Call 650-780-7340 or go to redwoodcity.org.
