■ Lecture: Summer Science Talks

In the first in a series of four free outdoor science talks, Thomas Jaramillo, a Stanford assistant professor of chemical engineering, will speak at 7 p.m. tomorrow (June 16) about converting solar energy into fuel. The talks will be on the lawn adjacent to the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University; the series runs through July 28. For details, go to continuingstudies.stanford.edu.

■ Film: 'Bye Bye Birdie'

Tomorrow (June 16) at sundown -- around 8:45 p.m. -- the 1963 Dick Van Dyke film "Bye Bye Birdie" will be shown at a free outdoor screening on Redwood City's Courthouse Square. Some chairs and tables are available. The city's "Movies on the Square" series happens on Thursdays through Oct. 6. Go to redwoodcity.org.
