M-A names Snow, Kryger as new co-ADs

Two coaches who have made an impact during their brief time at Menlo-Atherton High will share the duties of athletic director effective immediately.

Menlo-Atherton Principal Matthew Zito has announced that Paul Snow and Steven Kryger will be the Bears' co-ADs. Both have multiple years of AD experience and more than 20 years of combined experience coaching high school sports.

Prior to arriving at Menlo-Atherton in 2005, Snow coached both the varsity boys' and girls' soccer squads, and served as the athletic director at Thurgood Marshall Academic High School in San Francisco. Under his leadership, the 2005 girls' basketball team won the only CIF title in Thurgood Marshall's history.

He was instrumental in bringing the boys' soccer and wrestling programs to Thurgood Marshall during his tenure as AD.

Since he arrived at M-A, Snow has coached in the girls' soccer program. He was the head frosh-soph coach for three years and has been the head varsity coach for the past three seasons. He continues to bring improvement to the soccer program, narrowly missing playoffs the past two seasons in the competitive PAL Bay Division.

Snow will continue to teach history at M-A and serve as the head girls' varsity soccer coach while taking on the duties of athletic director with Kryger.

Kryger has been at M-A for three years, teaching math and coaching boys' lacrosse. He coached basketball at Hillsdale, Palo Alto, and San Mateo highs, and was named San Mateo County Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year in 2000 and again in 2008.

As the athletic director at San Mateo High, Kryger was instrumental in the founding of the SMHS Athletic Hall of Fame and the SMHS Foundation. He also spearheaded the fundraising and installation of an all-weather track, all-weather football/soccer field, new tennis courts, and the refurbishment of the pool as well as helping to revitalize the Parent Athletic Booster Organization, more than tripling their donations during his tenure.

Kryger will continue to teach mathematics and be the head coach for boys' lacrosse while taking on the AD duties.

Snow and Kryger replace Mary Podesta, who served as athletic director this past season after taking over for veteran AD Pam Wimberly.
