Section of Channing Avenue to close temporarily

Crosstown Shuttle to be rerouted as storm-drain work continues through summer

The section of Channing Avenue between Newell Road and Hutchinson Avenue will be closed to through traffic starting Thursday (May 26) because of work on a storm-drain project, the Palo Alto City Manager's Office said.

Access for local traffic and emergency vehicles will be provided at all times, according to the announcement issued by city Communications Manager Linda Clerkson.

The Crosstown Shuttle will be rerouted around the work zone and temporary shuttle stops will be established at the corner of Newell and Greenwood Avenue.

The closure will be Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the street will be open evenings and weekends.

Work on the storm-drain project will continue through the summer, the announcement said.

More information is available on the city's website.

Please stick to the 8:30am closing time so we can get our kids to school on time.

So frustrating that we( the families that live on this part of Channing) did not get more than one day's notice on a several week street closing during the busiest part of the school year, when we are driving back and forth to schools bringing things and taking things home from end of the year events!

I hope this means when all this work is complete we will see Channing repaved! It was murder on bicycles before; now it will be even more hazardous.

> Cresent Park Mom,

Uh ... maybe you did not get the mailing, or see the signs, but I've known about this for months. First it was water mains, and now it's storm drains ... I wonder what's next? Maybe they'll re-route the HSR down Channing too! ;-)
