■ Art: 'Animal House'

Today (May 24), Gallery House opens a new show called "Animal House," featuring creature-themed ceramics, mixed-media sculptures and cast bronzes by various artists. The gallery is at 320 California Ave. in Palo Alto, open Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday from 11 to 8, and Sundays from 11 to 3. ■ Author: Julie Orringer

Tonight (May 24) at 7 p.m., Julie Orringer gives a talk on her book "The Invisible Bridge," about a Hungarian Jewish architecture student discovering family secrets in the Paris of 1937. The event is at Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. Audience members must buy the event book or a $10 gift card to admit two. Admission is free for Kepler's members.
