Police urge caution, safety on Cinco de Mayo

Avoid the 13 DUI task force to have extra patrols tonight

Santa Clara County law enforcement agencies are advising the public to have fun in a safe and responsible way on Cinco de Mayo. Thirteen law enforcement agencies countywide are deploying extra units to patrol for drunken drivers.

The Avoid the 13 DUI task force will have extra patrols in Palo Alto, Los Altos Hills, Milpitas, Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos and San Jose. Units will look for drivers weaving out of lanes, making wide turns, failing to go at green lights, driving below the speed limit, and driving aggressively and recklessly, and other signs of intoxicated driving.

Only in the US the 5 de Mayo thing gets overhyped, due to the big business push to sell food, alcohol, etc.

No problem on my part for the police to fill up the jails with drunks. They might want to use some of the tactics of Mr. Joe Arpaio the Sheriff of Maricopa County Arizona, dress up the inmates with stripes and pink underwear and don't forget the chain gangs. That will send a message and bring some responsibility to lawbreakers.

So agree!! No accountability for breaking the law anymore. In fact, those of us who do believe in following the laws of society are often chastised for it! Something has gone very wrong!

From Wikipedia ..

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a holiday held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla.

As the other posters noted, this is not even a Mexican holiday. Any claim that it's "celebrated" in the US have to be attended with the question: "by whom, and why"?

So tired of the moronic bad drivers flying their Mexico flags & getting drunk. Let's hope if they get behind the wheel soused they get busted.
