■ Art: Bruce Beasley

"Pure Form," a new free exhibition by sculptor Bruce Beasley, opens today (May 4) at Smith Andersen Editions, 440 Pepper Ave., Palo Alto. Beasley is also known for the arch-shaped work of public art he's planning at Palo Alto's new Mitchell Park Library and Community Center. The Smith Andersen show is scheduled to be up through June 29, with a reception on May 14 from 3 to 5 p.m.; gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 650-327-7762 or go to smithandersen.com.

■ Author: Lucille Eichengreen

Today (May 4) at 6 p.m., Lucille Eichengreen will give a free talk on her book "Haunted Memories: Women in the Holocaust," about her own experiences and those of other women during the war.
