Car flips in morning crash on Oregon Expressway

Driver extricated from vehicle after 4:26 a.m. collision in Palo Alto

A man had to be extricated from his Dodge Avenger Sunday and taken to the hospital after an early-morning crash at Oregon Expressway and Waverley Street, Palo Alto police said.

The solo-vehicle collision was reported at 4:26 a.m. and the driver was the only person in the car, Palo Alto police Agent Kara Salazar said. The car flipped over onto its driver side in the collision, Salazar said. The man -- later arrested for drunken driving -- was transported to Stanford Hospital with minor injuries, she said.

"He was very uncooperative with the medics and hospital staff," Salazar said.

According to the Palo Alto police report, 55-year-old Michael Krasihan of Menlo Park was booked for misdemeanor DUI.

More information will be posted when it becomes available.

If the driver was arrested, why was his name not released?
And what did he collide with?

It sounded like he wound up in the vegetation separating westbound Oregon Expressway from Oregon Avenue, just west of Waverley. PAFD had to cut him out of it, leaving a pretty big gap in the planting that screens the Expressway from Oregon Avenue.

Was it just Friday the school bus collided with a drunk driver in Menlo? When will this crap ever stop. I hate drunk drivers. Thank God he didn't hurt or kill anyone.

Once arrested, drunk drivers should be required by law to reimburse the city whose emergency services responded to the situation they caused. That would be a helpful deterrent.

Dear anonymous name?

Did you read the article? His name, age and city of residence were all in it.

Judith, the original article did not include the driver's name or the link to the police log (released just today!). We appreciate the staff at Palo Alto Online updating the article with new information.

Well, this is interesting! I get the online paper in my email box, then click on the stories. Often, as is the case today, others have already written comments. How am I to know when others get their online papers? Maybe I get it late cause my last name is at the end of the alphabet? ...
And, BTW, jardins has a great idea!

Judith - maybe you should just trust that your neighbors are telling the truth instead of yelling that they are liars?

Judith - The initial comment by "name?" was posted late yesterday, before information about the DUI driver was available. The story was updated this morning when the details (name, age, residence) were released. The first version of the story did not contain the driver's name. My apologies for the confusion.

Especially hate the DUI!! The driver MUST get a big fine and some "work project" to atone for it. Alcohol is Bad! So many people can't keep themselves clear thinking, and lose their perspective.
DUI is inexcuseable!! PERIOD.
