■ Lecture: ‘Our Explosive Sun’

Tonight (April 20) at 7 p.m., astronomer Thomas Berger will give a free, illustrated talk called “Our Explosive Sun: New Views of the Nearest Star & The Largest Explosions in the Solar System.” The lecture, which is billed as non-technical, will be in Smithwick Theatre at Foothill College, 12345 El Monte Road, Los Altos Hills. Berger is an astrophysicist at the Lockheed Martin Solar & Astrophysics Laboratory in Palo Alto, and designs telescopes to view the sun’s outer atmosphere and magnetic fields.
