Escondido School in Palo Alto was searching for a new principal Tuesday after the announcement that 15-year Principal Gary Prehn will become principal of Fairmeadow School this fall.
Prehn will replace Eric Goddard, Fairmeadow's principal for the past three years, who will move to school district headquarters to become director of human resources.
The search for a new principal at Escondido will begin immediately, the district said.
Superintendent Kevin Skelly said the decision to place Prehn at Fairmeadow came after the veteran principal "expressed a desire for the rejuvenation and energy that comes with leading in a new environment.
"We believe Mr. Prehn represents the proven leadership necessary to continue the successes at Fairmeadow," Skelly said.
Prior to joining Escondido in 1997, Prehn was principal for six years at Juana Briones School.
He originally came to the district in 1975 as an elementary PE teacher, and later worked as an elementary classroom teacher, and as a middle school math and PE teacher.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Chico State University and a master's in educational administration from San Jose State University.
"Mr. Prehn's enthusiasm and professional expertise at Escondido will help provide for continuity and a smooth transition for Fairmeadow," Skelly said.
