Tomorrow's events (April 8)

■ Art: 'Sedimentals'

Bookbinder and artist Jody Alexander opens a new exhibition tomorrow (April 8) at the Community School of Music and Arts, 230 San Antonio Circle, Mountain View. Her 14 sculpture installations combine books with furniture, finding new homes for discarded tomes inside chairs, bookshelves and such. Alexander herself combines a degree in art history with one in library science, and teaches book arts at CSMA and Foothill College. CSMA's Mohr Gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show runs through May 31. Call 650-917-6800 or go to arts4all.org.

■ Talk: 'How Do You Operate Ethically in a Combat Zone?'

U.S. Army Col. Clayton Odie Sheffield, an Army fellow at Stanford University's Center for International Security and Cooperation, will give a free talk tomorrow (April 8) at noon. Titled "How Do You Operate Ethically in a Combat Zone?", the talk will be in Building 110, Room 112 (Main Quad), Stanford. Sheffield's background includes serving on the National Security Council as the director for current operations in the Defense Policy Directorate, and as director for Iraq in the Iraq and Afghanistan Affairs Directorate.
