Today's events (April 4)

■ Author: Charles Baxter

Tonight (April 4) at 7 p.m., Charles Baxter gives a talk on his short-story collection "Gryphon," which combines stories old and new. The event is at Kepler's Books, 1010 El Camino Real, Menlo Park. As part of a new Kepler's policy, the formerly free author talks in the store now have an admission cost: Audience members must buy the event book or a $10 gift card (both admit two). Members of the store's "Literary Circle" get in free. Call 650-324-4321 or go to keplers.com.
