■ Author: Brandon Mull

Young-adult author Brandon Mull, creator of the "Beyonder" series, gives a free author talk tonight (March 23) at 7 p.m. on his middle-school tale "A World Without Heroes." ■ Talk: 'America's French Chef'

Today (March 23) at noon, Nancy C. Unger, associate professor of history at Santa Clara University, will give a free talk called "Julia Child, America's French Chef: An Appetite for Life." The event is at the SLAC Panofsky Auditorium, 2575 Sand Hill Road, Menlo Park, presented by Women's Interchange at SLAC. The talk will look at Child's life in the context of the history of American women. Attendees must bring a photo ID to show to the guard at the SLAC front gate.
