Tornado warning issued for San Mateo County

Residents urged to seek shelter as severe thunderstorm hits Peninsula

The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning this morning for San Mateo County due to a severe thunderstorm in the area.

The warning is for the cities of San Mateo, San Carlos, Redwood City, Millbrae, Foster City, Burlingame, Belmont, Hillsborough and Half Moon Bay, according to the weather service.

The weather service issued the warning at 10:58 a.m. and it was expected to last until at least 11:30 a.m. People caught outside should seek shelter in a nearby reinforced building, or at last resort, seek shelter in a culvert.
