SH Prep grad Vogt is awarded MPSF Player of the Week

San Jose State senior and Sacred Heart Prep grad Adriana Vogt earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Women's Water Polo Player of the Week honors after scoring 15 goals in four wins at the San Diego State Invitational over the past weekend.

Vogt became the all-time scoring leader in Spartans' history with a total of 213 goals. She passed Juliet Moss, who had 206.

Vogt scored four goals each in a conference win over SDSU and again against Princeton. She added six against Cal State Northridge.

Meanwhile, Stanford women's water polo's incoming Class of 2015 provided the latest in a long line of glimpses into the type of success and talent that it will bring to The Farm in 2012 as the CIF women's water polo section championships wrapped up.

Four members of the class (Emily Dorst, Ashley Grossman, Kiley Neushul, Maggie Steffens) led their respective schools to a CIF section title, while Catherine Carpenter and Cory Dodson led their schools into the quarterfinals of their section tournament.

Dorst, one of two locally-based Cardinal signees, made 15 saves in Menlo-Atherton's 6-5 Central Coast Section Division I title-game victory over St. Francis and earned MVP honors. The anchor of the M-A defense, Dorst was named both the Division I Player and Goalie of the Year in the CCS.

Baseball

The Stanford-Michigan three-game, two-day series on Friday and Saturday has been canceled due to impeding weather in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Stanford, ranked No. 12 and off since March 4-6 at Texas due to finals, will have to wait until Monday, March 21, when it travels to UC Davis. The Cardinal will then travel to Pacific on Wednesday, March 23, before hosting Long Beach State March 25-27.

Michigan, which did not even fly out to the West Coast, will conclude the start to its season on a 15-game road trip. The Wolverines will play Michigan State in a three-game series March 25-27.

Women's basketball

Stanford tri-captains Nnemkadi Ogwumike, Kayla Pedersen and Jeanette Pohlen were each named All-Region nominees for the 2011 State Farm Coaches' All-America Team, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Wednesday.

The Cardinal trio makes up three of the four Region 8 nominees, and makes Stanford one of just three schools (along with Baylor and Notre Dame) to have three nominees among the list of 52. Gonzaga's Courtney Vandersloot is the other Region 8 nominee.

The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team selection committee will review these 52 candidates and trim the list to 40 finalists, from which the 10-member State Farm Coaches' All-America Team will be selected. The State Farm Coaches' All-America Team will be announced on Saturday, April 2 in Indianapolis, site of the 2011 Women's Final Four.
