Yun paces Stanford golfers to fourth-place finish


Andrew Yun shot a final-round 71 to finish tied for fifth place at the USC Collegiate Invitational Tuesday at North Ranch Country Club.

The Stanford men's golf team finished with a total of 863, placing fourth behind San Diego State's winning score of 850.

Yun completed three rounds with a 2-under 211, recording consistent rounds of 70 and 70 before finishing with his round at even par.


Jake Stewart had two hits and drove in three runs as Stanford beat visiting Santa Clara, 8-4, in a nonconference game Tuesday.

Menlo School grad Kenny Diekroeger added three hits, Tyler Gaffney had two hits and drove in two runs as the Cardinal (5-3) won its second straight heading into this weekend's three-game series at Texas.

Ben Clowe and Zach Jones each added a pair of hits for Stanford, which scored three times in the first inning to help A.J. Vanegas gain the pitching victory.

Vanegas allowed a run on three hits in his four innings. A.J. Taft, Scott Snodgress and Chris Reed combined for five innings of solid relief work.

Women's golf

Kristina Wong moved into the top 10 and Stanford moved into sixth place after two rounds of the Bruin-Wave Invitational at Robinson Ranch Valley.

Wong repeated her score of 73 Tuesday and has a total of 146, five strokes off co-leaders Stephanie Kono of UCLA and Rebecca Lee-Bentham of Texas.

Sally Watson also shot a 1-over 73 for the Cardinal to move up the leaderboard into 23rd place.
