East Palo Alto man, 21, faces 50 years in prison

Kevin Maldonao conviced of first-degree murder for September 2009 shooting death

Kevin Maldonado, 21, of East Palo Alto faces at least 50 years in prison after he was found guilty Friday of killing one man and wounding a second in September 2009.

Maldonado was found guilty of first-degree murder involving use of a gun in a jury trial in Redwood City, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaff reported.

Wagstaff said Maldonado faces 77 years to life in prison, with a minimum of 50 years when he's sentenced, scheduled for March 2, the Associated Press reported.

Jurors reached a verdict Friday afternoon.

The trial was delayed by a disclosure that a juror had talked to a bailiff about working together on a play after the trial ended. The juror was replaced with an alternate juror.
