Holiday Fund application deadline is today

Jan. 7 is the deadline for grant applications for the Palo Alto Weekly's annual Holiday Fund.

The Holiday Fund is in its 18th year and has given away more than $4 million. The fund provides grants to nonprofit groups that serve children and families. This year, more than $245,000 will be awarded to 30 to 40 organizations. Grants range from $1,000 to $10,000.

The Weekly is still receiving donations and has a goal to give away $275,000. Individuals, businesses and foundations have generously donated money each year. For 2011, the Packard, Hewlett, Peery and Arrillaga Family foundations are offering $90,000 in matching grants.
