Two injured in collision on El Camino Real

Two-car crash sends Toyota into light pole in Palo Alto

A two-car collision at the intersection of El Camino Real and Churchill Avenue Monday (Jan. 3) at 11:27 a.m. in Palo Alto caused a temporary traffic backup along northbound El Camino.

In the crash, a gold Nissan Murano SUV appeared to have broadsided an older model Toyota Camry sedan, sending the silver sedan into the light pole at the northeast corner of the intersection.

Two ambulances and numerous paramedics were on the scene to aid the injured.

Fire personnel used the Jaws of Life, removing the passenger-side front door to extract a woman in her late 60s or 70s from the Toyota. She and the Nissan driver, who appeared to be in her 40s, were taken to Stanford Hospital with trauma injuries, Chris Woodard, fire battalion chief, said.

Both women were conscious; Woodard said he did not know the extent of their injuries.

Both drivers were traveling at about 30 mph, he said.

The wreck in the photo is a Nissan Murano, not "Lexus Murano".

Thank you. We have corrected the story. The vehicle was mis-identified by an official at the scene.

Tyler--what about the wreck at the corner of Embarcadero and El Camino this AM.
I drove into work at Stanford at about 6:30 AM and El Camino was closed heading towards Menlo PArk (you had to turn right onto Embarcadero at El Camino) and traffic coming down Embarcadero towards Stanford had to turn right onto El Camino.

Haven't heard much about the other crash early this morning, but we'll see what details we can get and post something when we have the information.

Perhaps we could have more accidents so we can take more great photos. Anyone agree?

It still says "Lexus Murano" in the photo captions.

Still wondering what happened in the accident where a woman was killed by a bus on University.

There was an email push, with no information and still no follow-up.

Seems like it deserves better. This one cost a life!

Maybe somebody ran a red light. Seems to have replaced baseball as the National Pastime around here...

I gotta agree - this accident looks like one of the two vehicles ran a red light.
