■ Teens: Costume dance party

Tonight (Dec. 29), Club Illusions in Palo Alto is hosting a costume dance party (with the theme "Samurai 3000") and laser-light show for teens ages 14 to 18, from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. The club is at 260 S. California Ave. Tickets are $10 online and $20 at the door ($15 at the door for those in costume). For more information, go to illusionssuperclub.com.

■ Art: 'Mami Wata'

This is the last week for the Cantor Arts Center's exhibit "Mami Wata: Arts for Water Spirits in Africa and Its Diasporas." About 200 masks, sculptures, paintings, video and shrine recreations on the subject of water spirits and their followers are on display at the Stanford University museum through Jan. 2. Admission is free to the museum, which is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Thursdays until 8. The center is open New Year's Day. The 33rd Annual Palo Alto Weekly Short Story Contest is now accepting entries for Adult, Young Adult (15-17) and Teen (12-14) categories. Send us your short story (2,500 words or less) and entry form by March 29. First, Second and Third Place prizes awarded in each category.
