At 804 Arnold Way in Menlo Park, the holiday spirit is present in full force. The home and yard, belonging to the Goldman family, is decorated with lights, ornaments and all manner of festive adornments, and getting more elaborate each year.
"It started off slow, little lights here and there, but the neighborhood kids would come around and enjoy it and each year I would pick up more and it just got bigger and bigger," resident Jeff Goldman said of his display, which started when his now-grown kids were young. He's been at his current home for 16 years, and before that decorated his former house on 16th Avenue.
Goldman is now branching out into building display items for friends, too, including handmade gingerbread-man and toy-soldier figures.
He suggested the creation of a local home-decorating contest, and named Christmas Tree Lane in Palo Alto and Candy Cane Lane in Redwood City as other favorite holiday locales.
Though it's "not always economical," Goldman said he plans on lighting up the neighborhood for years to come.
"I enjoy doing it for the neighborhood, the way neighbors stop and enjoy and slow the cars down. I get a kick out of it," he said.
