■ Art: 'Extreme Makeover'
Today (Dec. 15), the Cantor Arts Center opens a new ongoing exhibition of art from the 1950s to the present, in its "reinstalled" contemporary gallery. Works include new acquisitions and pieces that have been off view, with sculptures and paintings by Manuel Neri, Frank Lobdell, James Weeks and other artists. Admission is free to the museum, which is open at Stanford University from Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Thursdays until 8 p.m.). Call 650-723-4177 or go to museum.stanford.edu.
■ Photography: Camera Club show
Members of the Palo Alto Camera Club are in the midst of photographing the city's art collection, and 17 photos from the project are currently on exhibit at Palo Alto City Hall, 250 Hamilton Ave. The free show is up through Jan. 27, with a reception set for Jan. 7 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. When the photography project is finished, it's expected to contain images of 70 sculptures as well as murals and functional works of art.
